How To Setup Aquarium Internal Filter (Powerhead Filter)
Every filter consists of few components such as mechanical filtration, biological filtration and chemical filtration. In this video, i will demonstrate how to setup an internal aquarium filter with all three major components.
Powerhead filter is another name for aquarium internal filter and it has both filtration and pumping built into single unit. Water always first comes in to contact with mechanical filtration, then chemical filtration and only clean water flows through biological filtration.
Aquatic plants provides natural way of purifying aquarium water. It doesn't mean that plants would be able to keep up with decaying organic matter such as dead leaves, fish waste and also excess food that will decompose if not removed. It makes aquarium filter a very important component of fish tank and you can learn how to perform a basic setup of internal aquarium filter in a planted tank.
Aquarium Filter Component:Mechanical Filtration: Coarse foam (i added fine foam too)Chemical Filtration: Activated carbon (i removed it)Biological Filtration: Ceramic rings (replaced with bio bakki balls and ceramic rings from cycled tank)I have removed the activated carbon from the filter and replaced it with some fine foam. Activated carbon is put aside and if i need to add it back then it is something i can do in future. It is an optional step and you don't have to do it. I have also replaced ceramic rings with some bio media from my cycled tank.Filter can be used with the attachment which would help with aeration, however it can be used without it. Powerhead has water flow adjustment option which is very handy to control the speed of water.
It is strongly recommended to add chlorine neutralizer after adding water to the tank so it can eliminate chlorine which can potentially destroy all the beneficial bacteria after you have installed the aquarium filter with media from a cycled fish tank.
