How To: Setup No Filter Betta Tank

Published on 22 Jul 2020 / In Pets & Animals

Ever thought of setting up a no filter betta tank? Today i will share my betta fish tank which has been running for few months without any filter, heater, fertilizer, CO2, powerhead and airpump. The only interaction i have with this betta aquarium is feeding my fish once a day which usually takes 1-2 minutes and doing a weekly water change which takes less than 3 minutes. Isn't it great? watch the video to find out more...

Tank has been setup for less than a year and i have had success keeping and breeding red cherry shrimp in this tank. RCS have been moved to my tropical tank with neon tetras. I decided to keep a betta fish in this tank and picked it up from a community tank at aquarium shop. There is a misconception around keeping a betta fish, they shouldn't be kept in small tanks, vases or bowls. A nano tank with abundance of plants will oxygenate and filter aquarium water and that's all a betta fish needs.

Betta generates a minimal bio load and most of the time, waste produced by betta fish is quickly consumed by the aquarium plants. To keep your betta happy, add a good number of plants. No filter aquarium for any fish is possible if an ecosystem can be established inside the tank. In my case, i have more plants then i need in this tank and it is working well for my betta. I also maintained this tank with out any filter or air pump for my red cherry shrimps.
